Location: Spruce Grove, AB

Parkland Food Bank is hiring enthusiastic and community-minded Summer Students to support our operations and events! This position offers hands-on experience in food bank operations, event planning, community engagement, and gardening.

What You’ll Do:

  • Coordinate weekend food drives at local grocery stores
  • Support community events like Canada Day & Agri Fair
  • Help maintain our community garden (watering, weeding, harvesting)
  • Assist with the 2025 Corporate Food Drive Challenge
  • Provide general support across departments and volunteer engagement

What We’re Looking For:

  • Passion for helping the community
  • Strong organization and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift up to 20 kg and work outdoors
  • Valid driver’s license

Position Overview:

Parkland Food Bank Society receives perishable food items through purchasing and gleaning unsalable products from local businesses. The Warehouse Coordinator Job – Parkland Food Bank will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient handling, storage, and distribution of these items. This position is responsible for maintaining food safety standards, ensuring quality control, and supporting the overall operations of the food bank.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the highest possible quality of perishable food products is distributed to food bank clients.
  • Implement and maintain proper food rotation practices (FIFO: First In, First Out) to minimize waste and maintain product quality.
  • Update and manage perishable food distribution lists to ensure equitable distribution among clients.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager when receiving large perishable food donations to ensure effective distribution strategies. Identify when surplus perishable food should be redirected to partner agencies to prevent spoilage.
  • Monitor and document temperature logs for all coolers and freezers to ensure compliance with food safety regulations.
  • Regularly inspect coolers and freezers to ensure they are functioning properly, remain clean and organized, and meet all health and safety standards.
  • Alter the Operations Manager to any equipment issues, ensuring prompt resolution to maintain food quality and safety.
  • Conduct inventory counts of perishable food items and submit reports to the Operations Manager to support purchasing decisions.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of operational supplies and submit requests for restocking as needed.
  • Data entry for food rescue tracking.
  • Fill in for Warehouse Supervisor as needed.
  • Other duties as required by the organization.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent work inside walk-in coolers and freezers.
  • Collaboration with both paid staff and volunteers in a team environment.
  • Significant time spent standing and moving throughout the facility.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs. as part of regular duties.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in warehouse operations, food handling, or related fields preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with the team.
  • Knowledge of food safety standards and best practices is an asset.
  • Comfortable working in colder environments (e.g., walk-in coolers/freezers).
